Message to NIC Mexico costumers and general public



The objective of implementing a staggered price scheme, starting in September 1st, is to secure availability and stability of .MX domain name services. This scheme will allow us to manage the number of requests for .MX services during the Initial Registration Period, in order to help us to provide the best service to .MX users during that period. It is very important to notice that the registration fees for domains directly under .MX will be decreasing gradually to be as low as $35.00 USD. If the current price doesn't suit to your needs, you should wait until the price is at a level that better represents the value that the domain name has for you. As of November 1st, the registration for domains directly under .MX fee will be set at $50.00 USD, as it was previously announced. *This announced prices for the Initial Registration Period correspond to the fees that will be charged by NIC México Registrar. But also, there will be available for all interested ones different fees depending on the Accredited Registrar selected to register .MX domains, and also to the service package they choose. Previous to the decision of implementing this scheme, NIC Mexico deeply analyzed other reopening and launching processes executed by other ccTLDs and gTLDs, in order to understand their development and results. From this analysis we obtained important data that supported our price definition for the Initial Registration Period. Also as a result of this analysis we discarded some other options, including auctions that other countries have been used before and where the prices have been around way up above $1,000.00 USD and in some cases over $10,000.00 USD. In the same way, it is important to emphasize that NIC Mexico has privileged current .MX domain name holders by giving them priority to register directly under .MX the same names that they have under any of the other .MX classifications. Furthermore, .MX domain name users have been rewarded with additional benefits as one additional year of coverage on domain name registrations directly under .MX during May, and preferential fees starting on June. All this actions are aimed to reward the loyalty of .MX domain name users by giving them the opportunity to register most of their domain names at a preferential price.
